Gender (in)equality in Chilean press: journalists and sources

Who writes the news in Chilean press according to gender? are sources, male or female, press? Is there a relationship between gender of journalists and sources This article studies newsroom their 12,113 through quantitative method with computational social science approach. combines web scraping natural language processing techniques gather preprocess data, facilitating exploration complex phenomena. Results show important biases source gender. From sample 158 journalists, 99 were men (63%) 59 women (37%). Also, from news, 7,565 (62%) written by 4,548 (38%) female journalists. Of 12,334 mentioned 9,771 (79%) 2,563 (21%). A significant finding is that equality related how choose sources. In other words, when media has equality, more equitable too. These results have insights discuss within journalism schools, make students aware bias profession. Furthermore, if presence – sources- increased media, it would allow them grow power status.
